Varieties

Yoshino is sold under several named selections, and two trees frequently shelved beside it are near relatives rather than true Yoshinos.

'Akebono' (Daybreak)

'Akebono' represents the pinker expression of Yoshino, its blooms opening soft pink and lightening toward white, unlike the near-white flowers of the straight species.

'Snow Fountains' (weeping Higan cherry, Prunus 'Snofozam')

'Snow Fountains' is taxonomically a weeping Higan-type cherry rather than a true Yoshino, its branches cascading into a fountain of white spring bloom.

Kwanzan (Prunus 'Kanzan')
